The Dutch library has hot summer plans

The kids are finally out of school and they’re so excited to be home. But after the first day at home, they are already tired of staying in the house. With rising gas prices and rising temperatures outside, how are you going to keep your kids entertained while they’re away from school this summer? Did you know that your local public library has programs to keep you and your kids entertained all summer long?
Every local public library in this area has a summer reading program for at least kids and teens where your kids can win prizes just for reading books. Summer is a wonderful time for children of all ages to explore the shelves of local libraries and discover that book or kind of books that will spark a lifelong love of reading.
Summer is also a great time for students to explore different types of “reading” like audio books or even e-books that they can read on their phones and tablets. All of this can be done with a simple library card. Once your child finds a type of book that appeals to them, it will be so easy for them to get all their AR points next year.
Many local libraries in this area will also have special programming during the summer to help ease the stress of hearing “I’m bored!” ” all day. At the Marion and Ed Hughes Public Library in the Netherlands, we will have special performers every Wednesday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. during our summer reading program. As of June 8, we welcomed the first of our presenters to the library, and we can’t wait to see what they will do to amaze us this year.
Did you know our library also offers two free movies a week for you and your kids to enjoy? Every Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. we’ll have a fun animated movie, and every Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. we’ll show a live action, family-friendly movie for all to enjoy. We always provide free popcorn to all attendees.
We will continue to have our Open Gaming in the meeting room every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 for our teens. If your teen wants to come and play one of our game systems, we ask a parent to fill out a permission form first, but then they can come and play games with their friends at the library. You can check our website (www.ned.lib.tx.us) for a complete list of our upcoming events over the summer and beyond.
We hope everyone can come to the library this summer and have fun. If you have any questions about any of our programs, please call us at (409) 722-1255 or check our website for a list of all upcoming events.
