Gulf Coast Community Foundation donates $60,000 to Wellfield Park project
The Gulf Coast Community Foundation board of directors approved a $60,000 grant from the Venice Endowment Fund to support on-the-ground renovations to Wellfield Park in Venice. The partnership with the City of Venice and the County of Sarasota will allow for the restoration of football fields and the soccer field at Letson Stadium.
ArtCenter Manatee received $1 million donations from the Floyd C. and Flo Singer Johnson Foundation and the Manatee Tourist Development Council. Donations will go to the center’s Transforming Lives and Building Community campaign, which is raising money for a new 28,000 square foot building for the center.
Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation granted $5,000 to Sarasota County Library Foundation to fund an educational musical garden at the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library in Venice. The interactive facility will include life-size instruments and provide a year-round venue for early literacy programs.
Neal Land & Neighborhoods hosted a community-wide food drive at the North River Ranch to support Meals on Wheels PLUS Manatee. A $2,500 check and 550 pounds of groceries were donated through the community developer’s Pay It Forward program. With this donation, the organization will provide 2,500 meals and serve more than 80 families.
The Sarasota County Educational Foundation announced two Suncoast Credit Union Scholarship recipients. The $2,000 one-time scholarships have been awarded to high school students Abigail Koester and Diana “Nicole” Valero, who plan to attend the University of Florida and the University of South Florida, respectively, in the fall.
CareerEdge—a Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development Program—received $25,000 of Bank of America expand its Bridges to Careers training program and on-the-job training. This is the latest support the bank has provided to CareerEdge as part of a 12-year partnership to strengthen workforce opportunities in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
