Panaji: Last year, at the height of the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bambolim student Gajesh Naik started creating educational content online. The content was aimed at helping elementary students in vernacular schools to cope with the lack of physical lessons.
This year, 13-year-old Gajesh has outdone himself.
The Class VIII student at People’s High School, Panaji, is now the creator of PolyGaj, a cryptocurrency management ecosystem. Gajesh has developed two dapps or decentralized applications on the Polygon network, which provide access to crypto-investment.
PolyGaj is a one-stop-shop DeFi (decentralized finance) and NFT platform, while StableGaj is a decentralized stablecoin exchange offering a stablecoin exchange on the Polygon network.
As kids his age were busy coming to terms with online learning during the pandemic, Gajesh used the time to hone his skills by mastering the development of chatbot to blockchain technology applications.
PolyGaj is a DeFi protocol built on the Polygon blockchain, which now manages $ 7 million in cryptocurrency, including a recent investment in the Polygon blockchain by US billionaire Mark Cuban.
DeFi is an umbrella term for non-custodial software programs that manage their cryptocurrency for them, without intermediaries such as banking systems or investment managers.
“Since last year, when physical classes were cut off due to the pandemic, I decided to take and complete certificate courses online, including at the University of Buffalo, University of New York State, ”said Gajesh, the son of Goa’s civil service. Officer Siddhivinayak and Civil Servant PWD Pranita.
Gajesh started learning coding at the age of eight in a bootcamp and is now familiar with C, C ++, Java, JavaScript, and Solidity.
He said his interest in blockchain technology was piqued when he attended compelling lectures at the 2018 Goa International Blockchain Congress held in conjunction with the Goa government.
“Since then, he has acquired the required blockchain programming skills and blockchain programming languages. Being a relatively new subject with less knowledge available in the public domain, Gajesh takes direct tutelage from professors at MIT and Stanford, ”said his father Siddhivinayak.
Today, he actively participates on social media platforms in cryptocurrency discussions and has gained 22,100 Twitter followers, including Dimitry Beterin (father of Vitalik Buterin, founder of ethereum), Sandeep Nailwal (co- founder of Polygon), Jaynti Kanani (CEO of Polygon), and Vijay Shekhar Sharma (founder of Paytm), among others.
He also recorded how-to crypto videos for his YouTube channel, which now has more than 12,000 subscribers around the world.
Gajesh is the youngest person known to complete all five levels of the grueling Google Foobar challenge.
As online classes have resumed, the teenager plans to devote up to five hours to schoolwork, using the other free time during his working day on PolyGaj.
