Giants call Scott Alexander from Santa Rosa after solid underage rehab
MINNEAPOLIS — With an ongoing need for a reliable southpaw, the San Francisco Giants turned Friday to a former Dodger who has quietly spent most of the season rehabilitating at the team’s minor league complex in Arizona.
Scott Alexander, 33, played at Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, Sonoma and Pepperdine before being selected in the sixth round of the 2010 draft by the Royals; he was first called up in 2015 and traded to Los Angeles in 2018. He spent much of the last year with shoulder issues and was waived after the season; the Giants signed him in May, and Alexander spent three months in rehab at their Arizona facility. He joined Triple-A Sacramento earlier this month and went 7 ⅔ innings scoreless.
